I’m Sahil Mehta, a sophomore at Irvington High School in Fremont, CA, nestled within the San Francisco Bay Area. I’m a compassionate adventurous teenager with a zest for life! My passion lies in visual arts, specifically digital and charcoal mediums, which I’ve been immersed in since a young age and I’ve clinched several art competition awards. I’ve been a devoted Boy Scout since second grade, and the pinnacle of my scouting journey so far has been a thrilling 8-day high adventure trek in New Mexico, where we conquered elevations of up to 10,000 feet. I’m now gearing up for my Eagle Scout community service project next year.
Since my freshman year, I’ve actively contributed to the DECA club, a platform that nurtures aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs across diverse business domains. This year, my team achieved a remarkable feat by securing 2nd place in the state competition. Sports also holds a place in my life. I’m glad to be selected for the high school water polo varsity team, and I can’t wait for the upcoming spring season to dive into my favorite sport, badminton.
When it comes to academics, I’m a straight-A student, even challenging myself with Advanced Placement courses.
In my downtime, I enjoy playing basketball, and piano and unwinding with some epic video gaming with friends. I’m an avid reader and at times dabble in writing with one of my poems being published in a national publication. Staying connected to my Indian roots is essential to me, hence I’ve joined a local Bollywood dance troupe where we showcase our dance form at different events.
My life took a profound turn when my older brother, Ronil, bravely battled DIPG, a deadly pediatric brain tumor, for 31 months before passing away in 2018. His journey instilled in me invaluable life lessons – to cherish every moment, remain resilient in the face of adversity, and lend a helping hand, even when facing personal challenges. Inspired by Ronnie, I’m kickstarting a childhood cancer awareness club at my high school, aiming to make a positive and meaningful difference in the world.
