Joelle Straehla is a pediatric neuro-oncologist and physician-scientist researching drug delivery technologies. She received her MD from Northwestern University in 2013, and in 2016 completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Washington. In 2017, during her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, she received intensive research training in nanotechnology-based drug delivery platforms at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and opened her independent research lab there in 2022. As of October 2024, she will join Seattle Children’s Research Institute and the University of Washington. She is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology, and her clinical practice is focused on the care of children with tumors of the brain and spinal cord. Outside of science and medicine, she enjoys spending time with her family, following her favorite sports teams, and reading science fiction.
